We journeyed on with a close eye on the weather forecast. Spain has been experiencing more rain than typical for this time of year and we have been trying to avoid too many drenchings! We are heading towards the Sierra Nevada mountains range, the route toward this has been beautifully varied.

Heading to Ventas de Zafarraya, stunning stunning high trail section on beautiful bright sunny afternoon.

It has been great to connect with all sorts of different people along the way, perhaps a few more than we might of had the weather been consistently dry. Sometimes this has been meeting people on the trail, sometimes when we stop for a coffee or a meal or staying in a hostel or hotel.

Some of the most memorable encounters:

Miguel and Manuel and friends were great great company in Jayena. Local cuisine including cooked garden snails were fed to us ( unasked for!) along with locally made wine. A very hilarious experience!

Chris and Noel ( see pic above) had us to stay in their home in the mountains on a particularly chilly night. My legs going a shade of purple in the cool evening air seemed to have caused them to take pity on us and insist on giving us a lovely dinner, a comfy bed, hot shower, cooked breakfast and lots of fantastic Irish banter! What humbling kindness. They said that all they asked in return was that one day we would pass on this kind of hospitality to others. We look forward to doing so, although I think we will wait until our home is not a tent!

Hi fabby team Mawson! So sorry i’ve been slow on the comments but I am SO LOVING your adventures. Oh my goodness and they are ADVENTURES!!! You are so brave and courageous. And polite – I can’t write what I would have done with those snails or that cold potato mayonnaise thing you ordered Sae – hahahaha!!!! I hope you are eating enough though – if not, I’ll retrain you on carbs when you get back. I’m still laughing at the pic of Debs with the cow crossing her path – that’s absolutely classic! Missing you both – am i allowed to say that.. prob a bit soppy.. soz. But so impressed by you – we don’t yet know the extent of the foundations in life and in faith you are building in this season, but God knows… and I’m so glad he’s with you around each corner. Hola from Corstorphine xxxx
