Rob started to chat to Tom as he was finishing washing our dishes from the night before and took a second load of laundry from us to wash and iron meticulously. Tom has worked for Rob's family for 49 years. He is married to his awesome wife Jennifer.

Tom spoke of being with Rob's dad Clive in his last days. Clive had requested lots of eggy nests. Then one day Clive had requested to be showered, have clean shorts on, be shaved and then put on the bed on top of the bedding. An hour later he died.
Tom went on to say that he had also been there when Nini ( Robs granny) had died. "The boss" had gone to Victoria fall, Nini had died peacefully.
Tom said that he has four brothers, 23 children between his brothers, Tom has one son. He said that Rob and his family he also considers family. He spoke of his pain when Mark experienced illness and had to move to England, he spoke of a trusting God for Rob's family who he thinks about often. He implored that we look ofter Rob's mum Paddy and wanted to be sure that we were.
He emphasised and we agreed that we all have to look after each other.
Tom leads with a humble example. I have only known him 3 days and it is obvious.

That afternoon we went with Tom to Rua to see his house that is in construction. It was great to see a work in progress, It was even more wonderful to see Tom's interaction with folk from the community he knew, espcially his great nephew Tadiwa - Tadiwa hopped on Tom's knee to 'pretend' drive us out of the neighbourhood. Tadiwa, evidently used to loving interactions with Tom.

Tom wishes that once complete his new home would be a haven for many, the children to come to play and stay, a place for him to gather local people and to preach from, a place for his wife to be a grandmother for the many younger family members that love to spend time with them.

Rob and I had ventured to a local church hoping for an African style celebratory Easter service , church was 95% white and 100 % not dancing!! We got back to the house and chatted to Tom for a while. He described being happy to go to any church, knowing that the important thing is about the belief is in his heart. He encouraged us to value our marriage, keep it strong, to take care of each other, to be slow to anger. Oh my we have so much to learn from Tom and Jennifer.
